Justice sits on a stone throne between two pillars, holding a sword upright in her right hand and scales in her left. The sword is double-edged โ truth cuts both ways, regardless of preference. The scales measure with impartiality. Her crown bears a small square jewel: the structured mind, clarity of thought. A thin red line of her robe is barely visible beneath the grey cloak โ passion tempered by reason, not eliminated.
Card Eleven (or Eight in some systems) is the archetypal principle of cosmic equilibrium. Justice is not human law โ though it includes it. It is the deeper law of cause and consequence that runs beneath all events. This is karma as structure, not as punishment.
Her position between the two pillars mirrors the High Priestess โ but where the Priestess guards the threshold between the conscious and unconscious, Justice guards the threshold between action and consequence. She is the witness who remembers everything.
Upright Meaning
Upright, Justice signals that a situation is moving toward fair resolution. Whatever has been in balance will be corrected; whatever was hidden in the record of cause and consequence is now being read. This is not always comfortable โ Justice does not favor the self-serving interpretation of events, only the accurate one.
The card calls for radical honesty: with yourself about what you have actually done, and with others about what you actually want. Legal matters, contracts, formal decisions, and situations requiring ethical clarity are all governed well by Justice upright.
The card also invites responsibility: you are being asked to own your choices โ not to wallow in guilt, but to honestly assess the consequences of your actions and correct course where needed.
Reversed Meaning
Reversed, Justice indicates unfairness, bias, delayed judgment, or a situation where the formal process is not delivering a just result. The scales have been tilted by corruption, incomplete information, or a decision-maker who is not impartial.
It can also reflect internal dishonesty: an inability to see one's own role in a situation clearly, or a refusal to take responsibility under a cloak of self-justification. The reversed sword of Justice points back at the one who would wield it carelessly.

Upright in love, Justice calls for honesty and accountability. Is this relationship equitable? Are both people contributing and receiving proportionally? Are agreements being honored? This is not a romantic card in the conventional sense โ it is the card of fair partnership.
It can signal that a relationship decision is approaching โ a formal commitment, a separation, a renegotiation of terms. The decision will be fair if made honestly.
Reversed in love: imbalance, blame-shifting, or a relationship where one person carries disproportionate responsibility while the other escapes accountability.

Upright in career and finance, Justice is powerful for legal matters, contracts, formal negotiations, and situations requiring ethical clarity. A fair outcome is approaching. Legal disputes may resolve in your favor if your case is genuinely sound.
This card also governs professional accountability: the consequences of decisions made in the past are arriving. If those decisions were honest and careful, the consequences will be favorable.
