Natal Chart

A complete astrological portrait based on date, time, and place of birth.

What is Natal Chart?

The natal chart (birth chart, horoscope) is an astrological map of the sky at the exact moment of your birth. It records the precise positions of the Sun, Moon, and planets relative to the horizon and the signs of the zodiac at a specific place and time.

The natal chart is your astrological "fingerprint." It is unique: even twins born minutes apart have differences in their charts, particularly in house placements and the Ascendant.

A chart consists of three fundamental elements: planets (what acts), zodiac signs (how it acts), and houses (where it manifests). Aspects between planets show how these energies interact with one another.

How it Works

Three parameters are required to cast a natal chart: the exact date of birth, the time of birth (ideally accurate to the minute), and the place of birth.

The place of birth determines the house system — the division of the chart into 12 sectors, each corresponding to a specific area of life. Birth time is critical: a difference of just four minutes shifts the Ascendant by approximately one degree.

Pandorium uses the Swiss Ephemeris for precise planetary calculations and the Placidus house system (the most widely used in Western astrology), with the option to switch to Koch, Regiomontanus, or other systems.

Frequently Asked Questions

What do I need to generate a natal chart?

Your date of birth, exact time of birth, and city of birth. Time is the most important parameter: it determines the Ascendant and the entire house system. If you do not know your exact birth time, a chart can be cast for noon, but the houses and Ascendant will be approximate.

How is a natal chart different from a zodiac sign?

Your zodiac sign (Sun sign) is just one element of the natal chart. A full chart includes the positions of all planets, the Moon, and the Ascendant, along with their mutual aspects. The difference is like comparing a single brushstroke to a complete painting.

How often should I have my natal chart calculated?

The natal chart is calculated once — it remains fixed for life. For forecasting it is compared with current transits, progressions, and returns, which reveal how themes unfold over time.
