Synastry

Compatibility between two people based on their natal charts — in-depth relationship analysis.

What is Synastry?

Synastry is the method of astrological compatibility analysis that compares the natal charts of two individuals. Unlike simple Sun-sign compatibility, synastry considers the positions of all planets, houses, and the aspects formed between the two charts.

Synastry does not simply ask "are you compatible?" but reveals exactly how your energies interact: where attraction arises, where friction occurs, where deep understanding flourishes, and where irreconcilable differences may lurk.

The method works by overlaying two charts: aspects between the planets of one person and the planets of the other describe the relational dynamics. House overlays are also analysed — which areas of a partner's life your planets illuminate.

How it Works

Synastry examines three levels of compatibility:

1. Inter-chart aspects — angles formed between the planets of two people. For example, one person's Venus in trine to the other's Mars indicates strong physical attraction.

2. House overlays — when the planets of one person fall into the houses of the other. For example, your Sun in your partner's Seventh House means you naturally become a significant partner figure for them.

3. The composite chart — the chart of the relationship itself, constructed from the midpoints of both people's planetary positions.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does synastry differ from sign compatibility?

Sign compatibility considers only the Sun (one factor out of dozens). Synastry analyses all the planets of both people, their mutual aspects, and house overlays — hundreds of parameters instead of one.

Do both people need to know their exact birth time?

For a full synastry — yes, birth times are needed for both. Without times it is impossible to calculate houses and the Ascendant, which are central to house overlay analysis. Planetary aspects can still be analysed without exact times.

Can synastry predict divorce?

Synastry shows the potential and the dynamics of a relationship, not its outcome. Even challenging aspects can be worked with — they provide energy that can be channelled constructively. The chart reveals tendencies, not destiny.
